J.T.

Being a mom of four kids, I feel like it’s a lot to keep up with taking care of our hair. It’s almost like another chore for me. If I had the choice of doing hair and sleep, I would much rather the extra sleep.

I have been fully natural for about two years. I started the process in the past on and off but noticed my hair kept falling out or breaking off every time I used a chemical relaxer. I finally made the decision to just stay natural because I didn’t want my hair to keep breaking. During this time I learned the most challenging part of being natural is dealing with two different curl patterns from the front and back of my head.

I don’t have the patience to do hair anymore because we have so much hair and it’s very thick.  I cut my oldest son’s hair when he was around two because I didn’t feel like dealing with braiding it the crying that came along with it. For style inspiration for myself and my daughters, I often go to Pinterest or YouTube to look at different natural hairstyles for myself and my daughters. I’m not that good of a braider so often it’s just me looking. I’m the type of person that does not like doing my hair every day so most of the time my hair is in a protective style. I mostly do box braids or wear wigs because they are low maintenance.
